Joraev, Medet Techmuratovich

Abstract

At the beginning of the twentieth century, after the defeat of the Russian Imperial Navy in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 the question arose about further ways of developing the domestic naval forces. This problem was discussed both in government circles of the Russian Empire and at meetings of the State Duma. One of the goals of the public organization, the Russian Maritime Union, was the search for possible ways of further building the Russian fleet. It must be said that this public organization has enjoyed the trust and support of senior Russian officials and representatives of the aristocracy since its inception. Among its founders were members of the ruling imperial family. One of the main problems affecting the possible ways of building the Russian Imperial Navy was the study of the use of the engine of the German engineer Diesel for the needs of the naval forces. Thanks to the influence of the leadership of the Russian Maritime Union, his proposals were discussed at the level of the leadership of the Russian Empire.
