"Volunteer Activities of Youth of the Central Black Earth Region During the First World War"

Abstract

The article deals with the voluntary activity of students during the First World War. From the very first days, students of various types and forms of educational institutions: primary (ministerial, parochial, zemstvo schools and other departments), secondary general education (gymnasiums, progymnasiums, real schools), primary and secondary special (commercial schools, teachers seminaries and others) actively participated in campaigns to help the active army, the wounded, refugees, orphans, widows. The charity of students has mainly acquired the forms of selfless transfer of things, money, gratuitous performance of works, provision of services. In 1915, student volunteer brigades (agricultural, gardening, collecting medicinal plants) acquired a mass form, which acted as amateur initiative voluntary associations of young people.
