Abstract

The article examines the revival and development of the physical culture movement in the Voronezh region in 1943-1945 on the basis of archival documents and materials from periodicals. Despite the war, sports events were held, voluntary sports societies (VSS) were recreated and formed. Particular attention in the article is drawn to the fact that in wartime conditions the emphasis was placed on military physical training and medical physical culture. In 1943, mass sports competitions were revived, one of the first was the run for the prize of the regional newspaper "Commune". Since 1944, Voronezh athletes have taken part in All-Russian competitions. The DSO paid much attention to the development of physical movement in the countryside. Lack of sports equipment, infrastructure, professional coaches hampered the development of sports and physical culture.

Keywords: sports, physical culture, mass societies, the Great Patriotic War, voluntary sports societies.
