"Management of Historical Memory as a Way of Forming the National Identity of a Multi-Ethnic Society"

Abstract

The purpose of this work is to study the process of managing historical memory in a multiethnic society, associated with the construction of images of the past for the formation of national identity. In the course of the study, it was found that historical memory carries not only cultural meanings that make it possible to realize the continuity of the past, present and future, but also political significance, which gives grounds to consider it as an instrument of political control. Management of historical memory allows you to control public consciousness. It was revealed that for the consolidation of the multiethnic Russian society, it is necessary to manage the images of the past, since the past is the social structure that is formed by the current needs of society. The management of historical memory is carried out through the historical policy of the state. The results obtained in the course of the study can be applied in the activities of federal and regional authorities responsible for the development and implementation of the historical policy of the state, as well as for the content of educational and informational content dedicated to the history of the Russian state.
